| What
really happens to roofs over time? |
 |
The
concrete roof tiles are generally coated with
a type of
coloured slurry and then a clear glaze to
protect them. With time, the weather etches
away the glaze exposing the slurry colour
(You will notice this if you rub the tiles
and look at your fingers). This could also
mean the tiles are absorbing some water which
tends to cause more movement. This will then
break the ridge pointing and possibly the
ridge bedding. At this point the ridge tiles
could become loose and in strong winds can
easily been blown off.
Loose tiles can and have been fatal. |
